This video piece is an exploration of a mother-daughter relationship and the dynamics between them that persist from childhood into adulthood. By weaving instruction, performance, and photography, Dos Santos demonstrates the malleability of power between a mother and daughter in adulthood, and how gender performance and knowledge is inherited through physical gesture and representation within the family archive. Using a photograph of her mother as reference, Dos Santos instructs her mother how to use the camera to direct her to mimic her mother’s physical expression of femininity. This video is a reflection of the increasing malleability of who holds power between mother and daughter and how the roles of teacher and pupil become less fixed in adulthood.
